Bruce Griffith is a missionary serving with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church who has worked in Central Asia for nine years as a primary school teacher, regional manager, administrator, and most recently, as an English teacher for national co-workers, university students, professionals and businessmen. Bruce is currently serving as Missionary-in-Residence in New York along with wife Kathy, whom he met while working in Central Asia.

Their country of calling has undergone tremendous change as the most overt hostilities following 2 decades of war have passed. Now there is time, opportunity and desire for education, work and improving the quality of life. Everyone wants to learn English as it opens books, doors, helpful relationships and opportunities. Bruce has been busy - until recently he was the only long term teacher with English as his first language in their city.

Bruce taught and made friends with a travel agent who sold tickets for the bus journeys between major cities, regularly gossiped with the goldsmith in the gold bazaar, employed university students as his watchmen and entertained all the students who would come to their home to drink tea; all key in developing relationships for friendship, work, life and ministry.

Amidst this enjoyable but intense activity, Bruce and Kathy made the hard decision and subsequent request to return to the United States for a period of time. They are now the new Missionaries in Residence, based in New York, representing the active and retired missionary community and the Board to each other, disseminating information and contributing to the work of the Mission Personnel Office. The Griffiths hope to return to Asia in 2 years time, God willing.

Before entering this full-time vocation, Mr. Griffith taught mathematics and reading in public schools. Following seminary, he served as the Associate Pastor of the Franklin Street UMC in Johnstown, PA for almost seven years.

Bruce received a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, and a Master of Divinty from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA.

Bruce Griffith is available for Covenant Relationship support in Central Pennsylvania Annual Conference,  Eastern Pennsylvania Annual Conference,  Peninsula/Delaware Annual Conference,  Troy Annual Conference,  Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference.
